Industrial Units Floor Screeding Project

Overview

Glenalmond was contracted to deliver high-strength floor screeding solutions for multiple industrial units. The brief emphasised the need for a durable and robust flooring system capable of withstanding the heavy-duty activities anticipated from
future tenants. These units were intended for a variety of industries, including logistics, manufacturing, and warehousing, requiring a high-performance screed to meet the demands of heavy machinery, high footfall, and potential chemical
exposure.and to specification.

The Requirements

  1. Durability and Strength: The screed had to meet stringent strength specifications to support heavy machinery and operational loads.

  2. Smooth Finish: The floor had to be level and even to accommodate future installations, such as racking and production equipment.

  3. Fast Turnaround: The project required quick completion to meet tight deadlines for unit handover.

  4. Adaptability: Screed properties needed to be versatile to suit varying tenant requirements.

Our Approach

1

Material Selection

  • A high-performance, polymer-modified cementitious screed was chosen for its superior strength, durability, and resistance to cracking.

  • Additives were incorporated to enhance tensile strength and reduce shrinkage.

  • The screed mix complied with BS EN 13813 standards for industrial flooring.

2

Preparation and Installation

  • Surface Preparation: Each unit was prepared using mechanical  grinding to ensure a clean and keyed surface for optimal screed adhesion.

  • Levelling Techniques: Laser-guided equipment was employed to ensure a perfectly level surface across all units, critical for operational efficiency.

  • Layer Application: The screed was applied in uniform layers achieving the required thickness to handle point loads from heavy equipment.

3

Curing and Testing

  • Controlled curing methods were implemented to prevent rapid drying, ensuring maximum strength development.

  • Post-application testing confirmed compressive and flexural strength met or exceeded client expectations.

Challenges and Solutions

Tight deadlines

Glenalmond employed a fast-drying screed mix, allowing for quicker completion without compromising quality.

Future Tenant Variability

A versatile screed formulation was used to handle diverse industrial applications, from forklift traffic to heavy machinery vibrations.
